Turkish Airlines
What are people’s thoughts on flying Turkish Airlines these days, in light of recent events? Should I have any concerns? It would be FCO/FLR to SFO.
Looking for alternatives so I do not have to fly AF A380 in angled business seats. The wife only wants one stop, so I’m hoping SWISS schedule will change and we can book them with UR through United.
I don’t think anyone is concerned about TK itself as long as you’re just transiting IST and going someplace else. Most people would be nervous about going to Turkey right now (unfortunate since we loved our visit there a few years ago).
I flew them twice today, so obviously I’m not worried 🙂
The airport has double security zones, and is definitely being well-utilized.
(and @Gaurav — you’d be amazed how many people weren’t comfortable flying Turkish before this summer, and how many outright refuse to now).
I overgeneralized it. What I meant to say was that *I* wouldn’t be uncomfortable flying TK :D.
Glad you’re enjoying your return. Are you going to add your thoughts to Ben’s Swiss F review?
As of security I wouldn’t be bothered very much. And the onboard product is really nice as well as the Lounge in IST (which is the only nice thing there) because the airport otherwise is catastrophic. I flew through it once: Never again.
I just booked my wife and child on an itinerary through IST on TK, so obviously I’m not concerned. TK award availability seems to be wide open, probably because of the recent events. In general I think people over-react to sensational news events. That can work to the advantage of those with a more reasoned take.
