Trying to Get Home

Trying to Get Home

  1. Anonymous Guest

I am trying to get home from Eastern Europe at the beginning of May. I had a flight booked on Turkish with united miles, but they are pushing out flights. There is an option to take LOT airlines. My question… trying to get direct to lax business. They have multiple days with one seat available for reward. Trying to book for two people. How likely is it that I book for one person and within a few days they release one more seat on the same flight? In the old days, we would just take seperate flights to either different cities or different days, but with all going on I want us going back together the whole way.

I wouldn’t count on anything. I’d also just look for ways home that have two seats, direct or not. We always talk about how you have to be flexible when booking award flights and that’s never more true than it is now.

If you’re set on direct flights then you may have to fly separately. If you’re set on flying together you may have to give up direct routing.

I imagine your priority is getting home, not traveling in luxury. So, you should be open to traveling in coach. These days, it’s essentially the same as business.

With flights nearly half empty, you’re almost basically guaranteed a row to yourself in back to stretch out. And, even in business class, service has been cut back so substantially that it’s not near the same soft-product it was 30 days ago.

Second that. If going home is your absolute priority, and if you absolutely want to travel together (which I fully understand), you shouldn’t worry about finding business class, you’ll probably have many empty rows to stretch out in coach. All the patterns about last minute awards don’t apply right now so snag whatever you can.
