Hi,

I’m trying to decode the Alaska Mileage Plan (never flown with them yet – but I’m transferring Virgin mileage over to them).

I’m looking to do a one way ticket for myself and my girlfriend from Los Angeles to Paris via Iceland. Their award cost is 55K miles/per person to do this business class.

However, no matter what I plug in, the business class is only covered from LAX to Portland and from Iceland to Paris. The longest leg – from Portland to Iceland – is always coming up as coach. Is there anyway around this or at the 55K tier, this is the only way you can do it?

I would search [I]just[/I] from Portland to Iceland to find dates where business class is available, and then go back and search for the entire trip. Keep in mind you can stopover in Iceland for a few days for no additional miles!

I tried that. And tried multiple dates. It seems like they never offer that leg from portland to iceland outside of coach.

And yes! Thanks for the tip on Iceland. That’s why we are going through Alaskaair miles because we wanted to go there for a week or so before Paris!

Hmm, maybe look from Seattle then. I have seen it on other routes, but haven’t looked out of Portland specifically. You should be able to add the Portland > Seattle flight on Alaska if needed.
