I booked an AA award from SFO-JFK-HKG-BKK pre-devaluation in U, but changed a couple of the segments to F a few days later. Right now my itinerary is

AA SFO-JFK (F)
CX JFK-HKG (U)
CX HKG-BKK (F)

The goal is to change the JFK-HKG to CX (F).

My miles were refunded for the U booking, but were not deducted for the F booking.

Background:
I booked an AA award from SFO-JFK-HKG-BKK pre-devaluation in U, but changed a couple of the segments to F a few days later. The goal is to change the JFK-HKG segment to CX (F), but my current itinerary is below:

AA SFO-JFK (F)
CX JFK-HKG (U)
CX HKG-BKK (F)

My miles and taxes/fees (~$55) were refunded for the U booking. AA recharged me for the F booking, but instead of charging the $55 to taxes/fees, I was charged $6 for the fare and $49 for taxes/fees; the miles for the F booking have not been deducted from my account.

Question:
One one hand, I would really like to experience CX (F) service on the long haul again, but I’m feeling a little greedy (not going to lie), and was wondering if I should keep my itinerary as is and use the miles after I have completed all my award flights towards a new reservation (assuming this goes unnoticed by AA).

Well, it certainly won’t go unnoticed. Is your new ticket “on request” or what is the status?

The new ticket was on request for a few days and was ticketed on March 20.

Then my guess is the miles will just be pulled out eventually. It’s been an exciting few weeks at AAdvantage, but they’ll audit and see the discrepancy eventually.
