Status challenge on AA?

Status challenge on AA?

    Hi all –

I’ve got a few OneWorld trips coming up for business, and trying to figure out how best to maximize status/earning.

First, I’m flying from JFK to HKG on Cathay in J on a paid ticket. It’s a Cathay-issued ticket, but I’ve submitted my AA FF#.

Next, I’ll most likely be flying from JFK to LHR the following week – this would likely be an AA-issued ticket, though I haven’t purchased yet. Fare class for this flight would be I.

My current elite qualification is pretty marginal: 725 EQDs, 2500 EQMs, and 5 EQSs. I did receive a free trial/upgrade to Gold status earlier in the year, but only ended up booking on flight from LGA-DCA, and it expired.

Given all of this, is there anything I should do before booking the JFK-LHR flight to try to maximize status? Am I a good candidate for a status challenge?

    Really appreciate your input.

I’d only go for a status challenge if you think it’s something you can maintain each year thereafter.
