Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Promo

Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Promo

  1. Kathleen Matlock New Member

I applied for the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express back in January, when they were running the 35,000 point promo. Now they say I only have the 25,000 point promo on my account. This was heavily advertised as a limited time offer and did not have a promo code that I know of. How do I get American Express to correct this? Am I the only person that did not get the big limited time promo that was so heavily advertised and recommended as one of the best deals for a hotel credit card? Help, please. I am really disappointed with American Express. They have given me excuses and claim it will take 30-60 days for them to investigate. By then, the six month window for the extra $2,000 spend will be closed.

Are you sure it’s not the 35k promo where it’s 25k after $3k spend in the first three months and then another 10k points when you spend another $2k in another 3 months?

  3. Kathleen Matlock New Member

Yes, that is what it is. It was on the Amex website, and I applied there, on the page with the promo, apply now. Now they are saying that it is not on my application and I will not get the additional 10k points if I spend another $2k in another 3 months. I wonder how many other people are going to get cheated out of the additional 10k points?

If you applied as I did, you might want to call and see if they have it on your account. American Express customer service used to be good, now they say, sorry, we can’t do anything.

Do you remember if any of the documents that came with your card said anything about the offer you’ve applied for? I believe it’s stated on there.

I have the documents at home but won’t be back there until June. Amex should know. They know the promo dates, they know when the account was opened, so they know the promo was active on that date, and they know I applied online. It was not an email offer with a promo code. I am really disappointed but did open a case. I am undecided whether to spend the additional $2k, so I would like to know if anyone else already spent the additional $2k, and whether they got the additional 10k points. If so, did you apply online or with a promo code? Thank you.

    Hi Kathleen,

I’ve confirmed with my friend who applied for this offer spend 3K to receive 25K SPG points and then 2K to receive 10K points. He confirmed he received all 35K points. He met the entire spend in a month.

Thank you, Erik. That’s what I needed to know. Will update here when I hear something back from Amex. Kat.

Yes, Amex should know that you signed up during the promotion period but when there is a discrepancy, it’s good to have and be able to provide proof to back up your claims.

As long as you’re confident that you signed up for the offer, I’d meet the spend, see if the extra 10k posts and if it doesnt call Amex and be able to provide proof that you signed up under that offer.

Thank you, David. I agree that is the best way to handle this, since Amex apparently won’t confirm it now, I don’t have the documents with me and can’t find the offer details online since it has expired. I will post back with the results.
