SQ miles for SQ Award + UA leg

SQ miles for SQ Award + UA leg

    Hello everyone!

Had a question in regards to an award booking. I am looking to book my fiancee and I on SQ suites from JFK > FRA next March (headed over to Iceland for our wedding)

I know they increased the miles recently to 76k per person one way (which is all we need) but was wondering if I am able to find award space on UA from LAX to JFK can I just add that upon booking for the same amount of miles?

Also, does SQ let you add another leg to the Europe portion if I find space on partners? Say I would go LAX > JFK on UA, JFK > FRA on SQ, and like LH/LX to LHR all on one award before buying a seperate ticket to KEF…….Any help or info would be greatly appreciated!

if you can find space, call up singapore to book the extra legs or maybe the whole trip.
not sure if you need extra miles but i think you might

Adding segments on partner airlines to an SQ award changes the pricing of the award. You’d have to use SQ’s Star Alliance Award chart.

I’m not sure if I’m missing something here, but wouldn’t UA fly to EWR from LAX and not JFK? Thus requiring an airport transfer? Just a thought out there

@Rohit Deshpande Yes, you’re correct. @Levi You should be able to add a UA LAX-EWR leg onto SQ’s award and then another FRA-LHR segment on LH. SQ’s Star Alliance Chart oddly doesnt Iceland as a destination but US-Europe in First is 80k KrisFlyer miles. 4k miles for the extra non-SQ segments, especially since one of them is a transcon (hopefully in UA ps service, if space is available) is a steal

To piggy back on this, is there a best site to search SQ partner availability? I was using United to search SA availability but wasn’t able to book much of what I saw upon calling SQ.

You can try Aeroplan or LifeMiles’ websites. UA’s website is good if you’re searching segment by segment. Just remember you need to find ‘saver’ space in order for SQ to book it.

Gotcha – thanks! I was looking at Saver space, but was not searching by segment, so that makes sense.

SQ doesn’t allow “backtracking” on awards, so while I think you could add a segment from Frankfurt to say, Rome with no issue (as that airport is further East), they might not allow London (as it’s 3° West). Can depend on the agent too.

The website lets you book FRA-SIN-BOM … yet you fly exactly over BOM on the way to SIN. If that isn’t backtracking, I don’t know what is. Maybe there’s an exception for this route.

Hah! I’m not saying it makes sense, just that is technically the rule, and sometimes it causes problems on the most unexpected routes.

Thanks everyone for all the help! Sorry havent had the chance to log on within the last week and oddly didnt get any notifications via email like i usually do?? Anyways thank you everyone for all your help and info, I will take everything into consideration! Just trying to weigh out my options. Ill have to call SQ here and ask I can backtrack to LHR via FRA and if so is it charged any extra in regards to miles or on the same 80k (plus additional for the transcon flight) Again, many thanks!!!
