I have over 200,000 SPG points at this time, and with the upcoming merging of Marriot and the likely demise of the SPG program, where should I start transferring my points to?

Think a lot of us will be interested in this topic. I expect [USER=4]@Lucky[/USER] will have a post on it at some point but am guessing it may be after we learn more about how SPG points will convert to Marriott and whether or not Marriott picks up any of SPG’s transfer partners.

I’m trying to figure out if this means it now can potentially work out favorably for transferring SPG points to United. The standard advice has always been not to do it because it’s a 2:1 ratio, and you cut your points in half. Now…

So I can transfer (e.g.) 20,000 SPG points to Marriott, equating to 60,000 Marriott points, and then use those points to get 25,000 MileagePlus points. Am I missing something?

Almost, your 20K SPG points equals 60K Marriott points then 26,785 United points. But you have an even better opportunity. For 270K Marriott points, or 90K SPG points, you can get 7 nights at a Cat 1-5 Marriott hotel PLUS 132,000 UA miles. This is a 46% bonus plus the hotels nights.
