Should I book a future Norwegian flight to London?

Should I book a future Norwegian flight to London?

    Hey All (Ben)

    Love your sites, Ben!

    Question….

We are big Norwegian fans and have flown their Premium Fare flight to Itay four times. We are hoping to take our daughter to Ireland (via London) in Ovt 2021. We are looking at great fares for Norwegian (on sale right now), but are a bit scared to pull the trigger. We know the airline is in financial trouble.

What happens to our tickets (fares), if they go under?

It’s hard to tell because each situation is different, but in my experience, you wouldn’t get your money back. Airlines will have too many things to pay before getting to reimbursing customers. It happened to me twice already: with a short lived Eastern European airline years ago, SkyEurope, and more recently with CemAir in South Africa although this last one is in a slightly difference situation. I never got my money back for the flights I couldn’t take.

You may be able to dispute the transaction with your credit card issuer; they usually refund you when a transaction is not honored by the seller. I don’t know if there is some fine print for specific situations like bankruptcies though.

    Clem,
Thanks for your response! Yes..I was afraid of that. I’m looking at Travel Insurance that would cover this.

Hey Dwayne, I can’t add more info to Clem’s response, but curious where you are based? It may be worthwhile to look at other airlines… I just looked at flying Boston to Dublin next October, and you can fly United/Air Canada/American/etc for about $1,100 round trip.

Premium economy on those airlines is relatively comparable to Premium on Norwegian… plus you have the added benefit of traveling on a more financially-sound airline.

Once you factor in the added cost of insurance, the cost benefit to fly Norwegian may not be there.

Some Premium Economy reviews vs Norwegian, if you haven’t seen:

    Hi Ricky,

Thanks for the tip. I will look around. We are in PHX, so we either fly to NY or LAX..so that cost needs to be factored in as well. Thanks again!

Hey Dwayne, hopefully you are still in research mode and didn’t pull the trigger on a Norwegian flight!

Unfortunantly..no. I already purchased one leg, as they were on sale. I purchased travel insurance just in case. Norweigan has already sent me a claim form for our refund. I submitted them. Just very sad for my daughter. They were the only airline that we could afford to Europe. Very sad day for my family.

Sorry to hear that! Hopefully there are more sales that pop up and you’re able to take advantage.

Very sorry to hear that @dcarter4 ! To @rickyw ‘s point, there are lots of sales going to Europe, including on regular airlines and sometimes in premium economy or business class. Keep an eye out for TAP Portugal for instance, that often runs very attractive sales.
