Hi Lucky: I took advantage of the Amex 130% offer on Etihad Guest Miles and transferred enough to qualify for an upgrade from Business to First, one way, booking directly with Etihad. For the return trip, can I use my AA points and book through American for the same type of upgrade? Is it possible to book two one-way trips on two different, but affiliated carriers, through two different loyalty programs? Is there an easier way to do this?

Hello tfassburg,.

AA miles can only be used for upgrades on AA, BA and IB.

No upgrade of a paid ticket is possible on Etihad with AA miles, only use is for award tickets.

Do you mean as an award ticket for are we talking upgrades again?

If an award ticket then many FF programs does offer one way award redemption’s for half the cost of R/T award ticket.

Specifics depends on FF programs and what airlines you want to fly.
