Qatar airways from Cairo

    Hi you all…
I live in Germany. I’m supposed to fly 3-4 times to the far east and Australia not the next few months(Bangkok , Tokyo, Selling, Sydney).
Prices from Egypt are third the price than flying from Germany (premium class flights). But I heard scary stories on the cairo airport , check in etc.
Is it recommended ? anyone did it? what would you suggest ? Lufthansa r Egypt air flight from Frankurt to Cairo? Do I have to go out at cairo airport r can I go via transfer flight?
Does Qatar airways have their own lounge? or Ethiad?
    Thank you !

We’ve done it several times! The lounge isn’t anything great, but you can see it here:

Transfers are easy if you have your boarding pass, more complicated if you don’t. I’ve done it both ways.

Hi Tiffany, I would have question as well about QR from Cairo. Yesterday I booked 3 tickets for me and my parents on the route CAI-DOH-BKK (business & first) and I chose to pay in local currency EGP (with my CITI Thank you Premier). Total amount came up to 44307 EGP, so based on MC Currency conversion tool, I was expecting to be charged about 2700 USD. But at the moment I have pending charge on the card in amount 3027 USD. I contacted QR and they confirmed EGP amount was charged. Any idea why such a huge difference? Do you have experience booking ex CAI in local currency and MC? Will this adjust itself once charge actually posts? Thanks a lot. Filip

I’d take a screen shot of the conversion rate shown by the MC conversion tool so you have it for future reference.

Hi Gaurav, at the end everything cleared in correct amount. I read again Lucky’s blog about MasterCard currency conversion, and it was exactly like he described. Authorization on the card was done with the exchange rate from previous day. Later it was recalculated with the rate from the actual day of booking. So final charge is 2699 USD.
    Thanks for your advice though.
