Purchasing Miles Strategy

Purchasing Miles Strategy

  1. Michael SEA Member

    Hey Lucky,

My Wife, Son and I are starting to plan a trip to Australia in August 2019 (yes I know it’s a long way away), we would like to book award tickets in Business Class round trip as soon as the schedule opens in August/September 2018. I will probably have to use a majority of purchased miles to do this as I wont be able to accumulate enough UR or MR points by then. What strategy would you use to purchase miles in anticipation of making this booking. All three of us have mileage accounts with, AA, AS, UA, and SQ, and I also have accounts with BA and LifeMiles.

    Thanks for any help

    Michael

    Welcome @Michael SEA –
I would first look at available award seats each day as the schedule opens to see where you can find 3 seats on the same flight. If you want a non-stop from the US it likely won’t be on Qantas. You can use the AS tool to look at Fiji Air flights via NAN as that’s one that’s often overlooked though I only ever saw 2 business class tickets on the dates I was looking a few years ago. I have no idea what UA’s availability is on their own flights but you can use UA and SQ miles to route via Asia.

Maybe someone who’s done this research more recently than I have can jump in with what availability they’ve seen.
