Probability of upgrade on British Airways PHX – LHR
Hi Lucky,
I’ve been working my way up to ExP, but not there yet. Just shy of it last year, so still holding status with AA as Platinum. I see a lot of discussion on here about upgrading with SWU, but what about using points to upgrade, as I don’t have SWU with Platinum status. What do you think the probability is of being able to use miles to upgrade from Economy to Business Class on a non-stop flight from PHX – LHR on a Wednesday night in July?
Thanks!
MMK
Hello MMK.
I assume you know that upgrades on BA are only from Full-Economy tickets?

Unless you are flying on the company/client dime with Y as the highest cabin, buying a discount J ticket might well be cheaper.
And SWU are only for flights on AA own metal, no BA sorry.
If you truly want to upgrade BA flights the best way to do so are in most cases using BA Avios.

Have you considered booking PHX-LAX/DFW-LHR on AA metal? You can buy a cheap economy ticket and upgrade using 25k miles+$350, if upgrade space is available. You can use Expertflyer to check for upgrade space for the transatlantic flight to LHR before booking and you would be waitlisted for the short flight from PHX if no upgrade space was available.
