Options for paid ticket when carrier discontinues route
I was booked in paid First on DL in October for SFO-JFK-YHZ-JFK-SFO, but was just informed that DL is discontinuing service to YHZ in October. They have rerouted me SFO-SLC-YYZ-YHZ-BOS-DTW-SFO. The segments to and from YHZ are on Westjet (in coach, since Westjet has a single cabin). I really don’t like the outgoing routing because it involves leaving SFO much earlier than my original flight and including travel time from where I live in the East Bay, this will not work for me. It also involves a legal, but short, connection in SLC and I am worried about misconnecting in the event of a delay out of SFO. What are my options? DL has an interline agreement with UA and AC, which both have single connection routings from SFO to YHZ. Would DL switch me to another carrier’s metal in this situation? The only other thing I can think of is splitting this into two days (go to somewhere on the East Coast on day one, then make the final segment to YHZ the following morning) or just ask for a refund and rebook something on AA. I don’t have status on DL, but I am MVP Gold on AS.
I think they should be able to reroute you with an itinerary you’re happy with, as long as you explain your situation. If they can’t come in with a routing I believe they will refund you.
