Need AA Companion Ticket Advice before expiration

Need AA Companion Ticket Advice before expiration

I have a $99 companion ticket that I got through my Barclay Aviator Aadvantage Business Card which is going to expire 4/30. I have to book 14 days in advance so I am in a short window to make a decision. I don’t have any paid AA miles since last August. I would like to attain some form of Status on AA since I have the card, Have 180k miles with probably another 100k about to hit and I have chosen AA as my boyfriend’s Amex Platinum carrier. I freely admit that I don’t understand the whole EQM, EQD and EQS thing but it looks like I am going to earn $3000 EQD next month. Explanation on the whole Elite program would be gratefully appreciated!
Beyond that I’d like to know if there is a point in trying to take advantage of this ticket prior to expiration and if so, what the best way to do that is. One last question…the program says I have to book the ticket through AA meeting services, but it doesnt say that I have to charge it on my Aviator card, so could I buy the paid ticket on the AMEX using reward points somehow. This game is complicated!!

hi @GalpalVal, it really depends on what your goals are. If you want to take a trip with someone else then it’s a no brainer to use the cert. Otherwise it really has nothing to do with elite status. AA status is based on money spent and you’d only be earning what you’d normally spend anyways. So, the short answer is to use it if you have someplace to go and a companion to go with :).

It’s been a while since I’ve had the US Air companion cert but I think you had to put the charge on the card so I’m guessing that will be the case here too.
