Miles credited to the wrong account

Miles credited to the wrong account

I booked tickets on DL connecting to KLM on Delta.com. I have mileage accounts with both KLM and DL, but only input my DL SkyMiles number when booking the ticket.

Surprisingly, my miles from the flights operated by KLM ended up crediting to my KLM Flying Blue account not DL. Only the DL operated flights credited to DL. I never input my KLM Flying Blue number at any point. The only thing I can think of which caused this was, I checked in for the return flight on the KLM app since the first leg was operated by KLM. And I was logged in to the KLM app and added my reservation.

I wrote both DL and KLM and told them about the mixup and neither will allow me to move the miles. I can certainly understand why they can’t move miles for folks willy-nilly…. but it seems wrong that KLM can decide on their own to credit their own program the miles when I didn’t ask for that. Am I wrong?

If you check in using an airline’s app, and have an account with that airline but don’t want the miles credited there, how do you do it?

I believe it’s because you checked in via the app that it made the automatic association with your KLM number. I *think* if you’d gone to the KLM website and checked in as a guest that it would have left your DL number in place. But I’m not 100% sure of that.
