Manufactured points at grocery store
I noted that the local Acme sells tons of gift cards, including visa gift cards with a low fee ($3). If I use a card that gets multiple points when used at a grocery store, do I get points for the gift card as well?
The stated rules do not allow it but as a matter of practice people do earn points including bonuses for gift card purchases.
I’d also prepare to get denied, depending on the store and/or cashier. A few years ago, you could buy gift cards anywhere. Now, some stores have policies against using a credit card for gift cards. Some will only allow you to use a debit card (not worth anything if trying to accumulate CC points). Some will let you, but they will ask for multiple forms of ID. I’ve ever had to fill out a form before at a CVS last year.
The majority of the precautions seem to be geared towards stopping fraud and stolen credit cards, but unfortunately it also makes it difficult (not impossible) to manufacture spend.
Good luck!
