Lufthansa miles: am I doing it all wrong?

Lufthansa miles: am I doing it all wrong?

Working up to Senator status (again), as I lost it last year after taking paternity leave.
However looking at Miles&More award flights, I’m wondering if I’m doing it all wrong?
The fees for each ticket are usually so high we end up actually buying a ticket (sometimes cheaper).
Are we doing this all wrong and should we be using those hard earned miles elsewhere on Star alliance?

Would really appreciate your thoughts on this.
Thanks,
Stewart

Hi @stewartfr, and welcome!

Lufthansa does have very high fees on award tickets, so you’ll want to save your miles for longhaul premium cabin awards. The best deals will be for transoceanic business or first class flights. For economy or intra-European tickets you’re almost certainly better off just buying the flights.

some countries do not allow fuel surcharges, so if your flight originates from one of those countries, you can save a ton. HKG comes to mind. Lufthansa First Class from HKG to FRA isn’t too shabby 😉 and even better when connecting at FRA
