Lufthansa Carry On Limit

Lufthansa Carry On Limit

  1. Steve from LA Member

I am getting ready for a little European vacation. My friend and I were planning on each only bringing a carry on, but we may have hit a snag. I went over carry on restrictions and we are fine with all of our 10 flights except for 2. We are taking Lufthansa from Germany to Spain and then back to Germany. I’m too cheap to spring for business on such a short trip, so we are in economy [via United award tickets]. Our carry on luggage will meet the Lufthansa linear measurements, but my friend isn’t sure hers will meet the weight limit. From what I can tell, Lufthansa has an 8 kg limit (roughly 17.5 lbs). That seems particularly light. Anyone know if they enforce their weight limits flying to and from Frankfurt and Spain. If so, what are the consequences of getting caught? We are entitled to check one bag each, but would rather not if we don’t have to. If we haven’t checked a bag and get caught, will they gate check it for us as our one entitlement? Or is my wallet going to get raided if we get caught?

I have flown Lufthansa on this route a few times (BCN > FRA) – you should have no problem. Lufthansa does not check the weight of carry-on bags (generally, I just proceed directly to security if I have my boarding pass which avoids them possibly weighing it in bag drop). It is good you have the option to check the bag, but am positive you will have no problems since the suitcase physically meets the linear requirements you mentioned as a carry-on.

Thanks I will breathe a little easier. BCN > FRA is my return route. Going route is FRA > BIO. Hopefully they will not weigh on that route either.
