LH F award ticket downgrade as of product/aircraft change

LH F award ticket downgrade as of product/aircraft change

1. RONISHEFNER

Hello everybody.
I have LH miles- ticket MUC- YVR on A340-600 departing on June 2017.
Suddenly I have noticed, LH stopped selling any cash or award tickets for FIRST at all for next summer, after a long time you could already book these flight.
Obviously they didn’t sell them out. I also noticed that from July 2017 the aircraft will be A330-300 without first class seats. In the call center I was told that for the moment the flight is confirmed in first and they can’t do anything about it until the airline changes the aircraft type online. But they clearly told me that something is very strange about this flight and I am most probably right that the flight will not operate in first.
The problem is – in the last minute I wont find any award flight to north America to be in Vancouver on time and I don’t want to fly business. I am also sure, LH will not treat me as a first class ticket holder and will not re-book me first with another airline in case they don’t have any seats.

Any helpful Information? what could I do if I must fly first to Vancouver with this award ticket? will I get the 75% compensation as the EU law says in case of downgrade ( 75% of 85,000 miles)?

thank you very much in advance!

I believe LH is dropping F from most of its long haul routes out of MUC. Have you tried calling LH M&M to see if they can rebook you on a flight that connects in FRA?

Hi @RONISHEFNER, and welcome!

Just to correct a couple of misconceptions on award tickets:

They absolutely will (or should) treat you same as a paid first class ticket holder, and should be willing to accommodate you on another carrier. The problem with that, of course, is that there’s really nothing comparable to LH F to Vancouver. @David W’s suggestion of asking them to reroute you through Frankfurt is a good one. You don’t need award space to be available, you can ask them to open up inventory.

The best award availability is at the last minute, typically.
Hi. Thanks for you reply. The told me they most probably will put me in business and pay me back the mileage difference. This option Is very bad as I wanted badly to fly first.

Hi and thank you for taking the time and helping me out. The only option to fly first class to Canada is with Swiss to Montreal and then AC to Vancouver in Business.
Can I request this option from LH? or they are going to tell me this is another airline or will give me some other excuse? it is clear that the cheapest option for them is just to downgrade.

6. David W

I’d hang up and call again and maybe politely request the assistance of a supervisor.

7. RONISHEFNER

Hi,
So there are only two options in first to Canada without going to the USA.
1. LX ZRH- MONTREAL SWISS and then change to AC
2. BA LHR- VANCOUVER direct

Any of these would be accepted by LH?

8. David W

The first one is probably easier because LX is part of the Lufthansa Group and AC is in Star Alliance.

I highly doubt that they could easily get you on a BA flight since it’s a oneworld airline.

HI.
So as we called one more time, LH refused to confirm they are removing F on MUC Vancouver route even they don’t sell any F ticket for the next year.
She also said that they will not put me on Swiss flight to Montreal as I am “only” FTL.
So they refuse to take any responsibility for the fact they don’t offer F but issued me F class CONFIRMED ticket. I am not completely surprised by this fishy tricky customer service of LH and this is the main reason why decided not to use their Miles and More program from next February.

Does anyone know if I could get a normal solution from them? Seems like they will just downgrade the ticket in the last minute.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

If they haven’t updated their schedule to reflect the equipment change, you’ll have to wait until they do, realistically.

Hi again.

Had a very unpleasant talk with LH first class customer service. They finally stopped denying the first class removal from MUC on most routes. BUT- instead of trying to help, the lady blamed me for deliberately booking a flight ticket for this route as she told me I WAS TRYING TO GET SOME COMPENSATION FROM LH. I was totally shocked. They just lie to my face and tell me that all LH first class seats are not available on June 17, 2017. They tell me that long term notice like this one (MORE THAN 14 DAYS) doesn’t oblige LH to find a normal solution and they can cancel my ticket from their site.

AM I DREAMING???

BTW-
They sold first class tickets in their system way after in the professional literature was stated about these plans. I think it was totally fishy to sell these tickets while knowing about the canceling of F.
