I managed to use some remaining miles from my Alaska and American Airline accounts to book a one way flight from JFK to Tokyo for my husband and I next Jan 2021. I don’t have enough AA miles or Alaska miles for return flights but I have around 150K Amex points available. I know I can’t really book ANA flights back since that would require round trip booking using Virgin Atlantic but was wondering if you’d recommend transferring miles from Amex to Avios for the return flights or if you think going for 2 CCs that would get me enough AA and Alaska miles be better? Additionally, I see that in 2019 there was some promo for transferring Amex points to Avios and was wondering if you’d recommend I wait to see if there’s something like this in the near future before making any moves.

Please disregard my comment above about Avios. Read more and realized this is likely the most expensive option in points for 2 business class tickets.

Guess my new question would be what currency should I focus on to book return tickets. After booking the flights to Japan I ended with around 30K on my Alaska account and 20K on my AA account.
