January: one week blocked out for MH and CX availability between KUL and HKG.

January: one week blocked out for MH and CX availability between KUL and HKG.

Anyone has any idea why there is no availability on either MH or CX flights in one full week (January 27 – February 2) in January for a HKT-HKG flight? I have been following it for months (waiting for it to open up), but the entire week has been grayed out for months. There is availablity from HKT to KUL, but not from KUL to HKG. I see similar things for the week of January 20, exactly when I needed a HKG-KUL ticket too.
Is there something like national holidays in those areas (Kuala Lumpur, or Hong Kong) during that time period?
I attached a screenshot but I cannot see it right now (maybe the moderator needs to ok it first)
Thanking you

I think that is Chinese New Year, which Malaysia observes as a public holiday for 3 days. But that doesn’t explain the whole week not having availability. Which site are you using to check? American, British?

Also, screenshots haven’t been uploading correctly for some time now, but we believe you without it 😉 … I know @Tiffany was aware of the issue, but I don’t think there is a fix yet.

I have been checking both BA but recently also AA (AA used to not show CX and/or MH availabilities). When the schedule opened up 330 days ago, I had booked the tickets, but there was only one Business class seat and one Economy class seat for the intra-Asia segments (HKG-KUL, HKT-KUL, KUL-HKG), so obviously I booked the business class seats for my wife and the economy ones for myself. I was just hoping that maybe business class seats would open up for me as well, and then I could change it free since I used AA miles to get the tickets.

Gotcha, yeah I don’t know why they’d be blocking the space for any reason, but I also don’t book intra-Asia awards so can’t say first-hand.

My recommendation would have been to check BA or Qantas… but sounds like you’re already there.

Maybe someone else knows better!

It’s a popular week for travel, so I’m not surprised seats are hard to come by for days around Jan 25 (Chinese/Lunar New Year)

Keep checking but dont be surprised if nothing comes up.
