Is this a good deal?

Is this a good deal?

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is doing well.
I just got an email from American Airlines with a promotion to buy miles, it reads like this:

”Now through February 16, 2017, add up to 42,500 bonus miles to your purchase when you buy or gift American Airlines AAdvantage® miles.

Plus, receive 10% off your order when you buy or gift miles by February 8, 2017.”

Can someone tell me if this is a good deal? or maybe teach me how to evaluate if it is a good deal? I am not sure if I should be purchasing miles when I can get some from bonuses without spending extra money…

    Thank you in advance!

    * working towards my goal of a Hawaiian vacation for the 2017 holidays (hopefully, flying on business 🙂

He always does it after a promotion like this, so it is easy to see whether it is worth getting the miles or not. In summary, there have been better deals than this current one, but if you need to travel soon, it is not a bad value. But please read his opinion, that’s a lot more specific. 🙂

To add to that though, I would definitely not buy miles in hopes of using them to Hawaii. You can see right now how much award availability is open around the holidays, and there really isn’t much, especially not in premium cabins.

Also, premium cabins for flights to/from Hawaii are meh. If you manage to book it, I’d go in with low expectations. Trips to Hawaii are really more about the destination rather than the journey.
