Is a 37 minute connection at CLT realistic?

Is a 37 minute connection at CLT realistic?

1. Ben Holz Gold

Travelling MUC-LAS for CES on Jan 2021 (AA ticket). The inbound flight I intend to buy is via CLT with a 37 min connection and onwards to MUC. Assuming there are no delays, is that realistically speaking enough time to get from one flight to the other?

In case I didn’t make it to the connecting flight due to a delay, I was looking at potential alternatives that depart about an hour or later:
1) AA via LHR (AA 730/732)
2) LH nonstop

Never been to CES before, so don’t know how full flights will be to/from Europe, but would AA be willing to accommodate me on either of the flights above (or other alternatives) on the purchased cabin (J)? Any chance I may have to pay for the other flight I’m put in if I don’t make it or that I am downgraded to Y+ or Y?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Ben,

Is it legal (MCT)? I would think that any inbound LAS – CLT flight will not be a regional jet, and thus you won’t be arriving at the E gates. Regardless, if I you were, I’d have my doubts about a 37 minute connection.

Is this on one ticket? If it is, AA will almost certainly accommodate you on a flight to LHR. Not sure if AA has an interline agreement with LH for missed connections. They probably only interline with LH in terms of storms, etc.

Hi @OCTinPHL,
After some reading, best I can tell CLT’s MCT seems to be 1hr for domestic to international connections. This was all under one AA ticket (this is the itinerary). The reason I asked was because I was under the impression that airlines weren’t allowed to sell tickets violating MCT, but it seems I was wrong (oops). Will look for an alternative.

Thanks for the response.

Ben, on that day (January 8th) it seems there is an earlier flight LAS to CLT on American that gives you a 2 hour, 17 minute connection. If your priority is a one-stop routing direct to Munich, why not take the early flight?

I’m sure a 6AM flight out of Vegas is just what everyone needs

Just stay out all night. 😀

I’ve connected at CLT numerous times in the past. 37 minutes seems…sporty. Not saying its impossible (it is doable if you are johnny-on-the-spot) just challenging, and that is with hand luggage only. There is absolutely no margin for error – a 10 minute delay because they cant get someone to open the door or guide them into the gate could scupper your plans. If it is at all possible to catch an earlier flight (as rickyw mentions), that would be what I would do.

I would gladly attempt a morning or afternoon 37 minute connection in CLT if going home to PHL and there are a few more flights that day. But not late at night and not on an int’l connection.

True! Can’t believe I completely missed that…
Haha sounds like the ideal time to leave Las Vegas, though I am not sure there’s enough time to enjoy the night.

Not sure what went through my mind thinking I could make a 37 min connection onto an international flight.

Absolutely. I’ve done it early morning and early evening, but always domestic. I would not dream of trying an international connection in that amount of time.
