If you have ever had Delta Gold, no bonus for Delta Platinum

If you have ever had Delta Gold, no bonus for Delta Platinum

    Hi,

I just talk to an Amex rep this morning. She told me that if you have ever had a personal Gold Delta card, you will not get any bonus from the personal Platinum Delta card since they are in the same family. Have anyone had a similar experience? Should I try talking to another rep?

    Thank you.

That is not correct. Each of those is a separate product and you should get the bonus for each individually. Make sure you don’t upgrade the card but submit a new application.

    Hi @Pam, and welcome!

The phone rep was (unsurprisingly) not correct. I recommend applying online, using an Incognito browser, so you can make sure the offer details and everything are correct.

Thank you very much Gaurav and Tiffany. I am so happy to hear that since I need a bit more Delta miles for a trip back home. I will apply for the Delta Platinum then.

The same rep also told me that Delta Gold card can’t be product changed to any card but Delta Platinum. Is this also incorrect? I am trying to downgrade it to a card with no annual fee.

I’m not a 100% on the downgrade but pretty sure that information is also incorrect. I would call back and ask to be transferred to the cancellation/retention department.

Thank you Gaurav. I have never known that there is such a department! I will call Amex again.

@Pam — Keep in mind if you are downgrading/upgrading/etc. you won’t earn the bonus miles for the new card.

My advice is to apply for the new card, and then once you’re approved, call back to change up the other card.
