Hello frequent fliers! Please can you help me out with this conundrum – I have a bunch of miles on Emirates skywards and on Air India flying returns. I want to fly to Columbus, OH from Boston, MA in May 2016 for my girlfriend’s college graduation. How can I use these miles to get a free ticket? Can I use Air India miles on United because of Star Alliance? Jetblue or Alaskan don’t fly to CMH, so I don’t know how my Emirates miles will come handy. Most of these miles will expire by the end of November, so I’m trying to hustle. Please let me know some strategies. Thanks a lot!!

ek_ai_flier, the AI award chart for *A is at [URL]https://flyingreturns.co.in/images/download/ai_star_award_chart.pdf[/URL]. You’d need at least 35k miles for an intra US award. Probably not the best value use of miles but if you’re going to burn them anyways it doesn’t really matter. You’d have to search for saver award availability on United metal and book through AI.

And if you have the Chase United credit card, do NOT log into your account when looking for award space on United. If you do, it may show you space that’s available to credit card holders but would not be available to folks using another Star Alliance carrier’s miles to get the award seat.
