How do I use my award miles for a friends ticket?
I have some AA miles I would like to give to a friend though I have no idea what is the proper way to go about it.
Can you provide me with the basic/best rules to follow?
It would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Skipilot
@skipilot, Unfortunately, you can’t “give” them to a friend without paying transfer fees that wipe out a lot of value for your miles. You can use them to simply book a ticket in his/her name for not extra cost (assuming you have enough to make the booking). If you need a few it might be worthwhile for your friend to pay you to buy the balance so you can make the booking.
Welcome @skipilot – just log into your AA account and book the ticket. When it asks for passenger name, enter your friend’s name. The credit card used for any taxes/fees will need to be in your name, however.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Do I have to have their AA log-in info or their FF# for anything?
You don’t need their log in info. Since it’s an award ticket it may not ask for the FF# but they can call in later and add that to the ticket. Definitely want to do that if they have a known traveler ID and would get PreCheck because of it.
