Holiday Award Travel?
Looking for any tips on booking award holiday week/New Years travel to a warm destination leaving from the east coat, though not interested in Florida, utilizing Marriott & America miles. Air so far has proven to be rather unrealistic for both cost & award redemption.
Thank you.
To best help you, it would be very useful to know what dates and airline class of service you are looking at and from which airport you will be departing. Also, roughly how many miles and points you have in your accounts.
Can fly out of PHL, ABE, BWI, DCA, JFK, LGA, & EWR. Trying to use mileage for four tickets, purchase one. Depending on schedule one person might flight out of ATL on points. American 500,000 miles & main cabin/economy is fine. Marriott have close to a million points, Ambassador status. Ideally would love two room villa (1K & 2Q) but seems like we will need to reserve two separate rooms. Ideal dates are December 26th – January 1st. Additionally not trying to wipe out all the points just trying for an nice family getaway which at this point seems like I need to change our dates. Thanks for your assistance.
Miles for 4 award tickets over a busy holiday period is very tough, and some resorts have an additional, mandatory charge for NYE parties, on top of already expensive nightly rates for the holidays.
I agree with @David W, it’s hard to find a bargain. I live in San Diego and I can attest to the fact that it’s beautiful here over New Years. I’d have friends who fly in each year over New Year’s to enjoy the beach and New Years Parties complete with fireworks on Coronado Island. If you fly out of PHL, book the last AA nonstop on the 25th (gets into San Diego around 8pm) and return on the 1st, you can take advantage of a web special for around 50,000 miles per ticket in Economy. And you can rent a Junior Cottage or a 1 Bedroom Cottage at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa – a Category 6 hotel for a very reasonable redemption. Alternatively, Las Vegas is always a great New Year’s destination and it’s a bargain, in terms of flights and hotel miles and points. Good luck with your plans.
