Hilton Status Downgrade

Hilton Status Downgrade

  1. Anonymous Guest

I have been a Hilton Diamond member due to my spending levels on the Citi Hilton Visa card. Since that card was discontinued and converted to an AMEX card, I have been downgraded to Gold. The Honors Customer Service Department tells me that this is normal, which I am not sure is accurate. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

So you were spending over $40,000 per year on the Visa? Just clarifying.

It’s my understanding that the new Hilton AMEX also offers a fast-track to Diamond status by meeting a spending requirement. So, you should be able to maintain that Diamond status with the new card.

As for the downgrade, are you sure you hit $40,000 in spend before the card transitioned?

I checked with Citi in December to confirm and I had spent $50K with them. Plenty of wiggle room for the spending requirement.

Since my post, I called Hilton again and spoke to a different agent who told me that I am not the first ex-Citi cardholder to report this problem, but the only solution she could offer was to suggest that I email Member Services.

And, as an update, I received the response below which looks like something copied and pasted off a set of talking points…

Thank you for your inquiry regarding your account. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us.

In order to maintain the integrity and protect the benefits of the Diamond program, we are unfortunately unable to provide complimentary upgrades to the Diamond level. I understand the situation and I can see that a fast track to Diamond has been added to your account on April 2, 2018 where you need 10 stays or 16 nights by June 30, 2018 for an opportunity to extend the status until March 31, 2019.

To be clear, I never requested an upgrade. I am simply seeking that Hilton reverse its decision to take away my Diamond status when they replaced Citi with AMEX, especially after reassuring me before the cutover that this would not happen.

Damian, do you have anything in writing from them saying it wouldn’t happen with the cutover?

I’d consider putting your thoughts together and escalating as you deem necessary:
