A few months back I booked rewards travel on AAL via chase. I recently discovered that because we booked business class and because were on the 777 LA-MIA flight we will have access to the premium lounge. Now this would be great if we didn’t have a 50 min layover so I call AAL and they want 200$ each for the change fee. Not cool. I’m flying from Vegas and just checking AAL it’s 44$ each for a one way to lax. Now I get I can’t do that because the rest of the other trip would Be invalid. Do I have any other options that don’t include 400$ worth of change fees?

I personally don’t think an AA lounge is worth going out of your way to change a flight. Especially since there is no way to avoid the change fee

Your one option may be AA’s Same Day Change. You have to keep the same routing – which you obviously want to do, but I think you can change one leg of a two leg flight, meaning you could try for an earlier LAS – LAX flight to give you more time in the lounge. The drawback is that you have to wait until 24 hours before the earlier flight to make the change. If you are not AA top elite (EXP, maybe PP) I think it is $75 to make the change – so $150. I agree with Ricky that it’s certainly not worth $400 to visit the FL at LAX, and I wouldn’t pay $75 per person either. Not even close.

That’s kind of what I figured. We have a long layover in mia to Belize, as well on the way back and a 5 hour stop in lax on the return. I guess there’s plenty of other Time in the trip to enjoy the premium lounge. I’ll just Have to enjoy sleeping in and the first class service instead.
