Hawaiian airline changed aircraft configuration

Hawaiian airline changed aircraft configuration

  1. Tim Gregory New Member

Hello all , my 1st time here . I am posting to ask if you could shed some light .
I paid cash for four 1st class tickets with Hawaiian airline Jan 1 2018 , now a month later they just emailed to change our reservation . Tickets were told new 180 flat bed upon purchasing , but now they are being changed to standard first class . Needless to say im so disappointed since i wanted to surprise my wife and the kids with this special treat .
I told them i would prefer a cancellation since i could have flown with other carriers . We usually fly United first class and are pleased with their service . They said if i cancel i would get the travel credit to use with Hawaiian until Jan 2019 . I expressed to talk with the supervisor and was told to expect a call back within 24-48 hours .
Im not sure what to do at this point since this is my first time having this issue with Hawaiian . What would you do ? Just bite and go ? Do they usually swap the aircraft ? And do we have any rights here to refuse their changes without penalty ?
    Thank you in advance ,
    Tim

What price did you pay for the lie flats? I travel to Hawaii often and the lie flats on HA’s A330 are usually double the cost of “standard” F on the 767, so I would maybe at least request a credit. Though this would probably be airline credit to fly HA again. Can you shift your trip by a day, in hopes of getting the lie flats?

I would be extremely upset as well, as the difference in product is far and wide. Good luck!

Thank you for your input . I paid $6k for 4 tickets from PDX to HNL in June 2018 . The aircraft configuration at the time i purchased is 2-2-2 and i was confirmed on the phone they are new flat beds . If they were standard first class i could have decided to go with United to earn some extra points . Now they changed my reservation to 321 Neon and it appears to be a smaller aircraft . I wondered if others would get affected too ?!?
Yes im still upset thinking about i have no other options at this point . I honestly do not want to cancel the trip because of my little girls , but am no longer excited about Hawaiian airline . I did plan my trip to Japan with them by end of the year but will bring my business to other carries due to this unfortunate experience .

Yeah, HA is going to the single aisle A321 on most Western routes. PDX must be a daily new decision, but it should still be a pretty new product and plane. However the unfortunate part is no IFE. You’ll have to bring enough for the whole family, although F class may get tablets. I usually fly out of OAK or SFO, but OAK is going to the A321, so now I’ll primarily fly SFO. Fortunately, due to cargo, SFO should retain the A330 with lie flats.

As a side note, $1,500 is what I’d expect for those first class seats. The lie flats from SFO are usually closer to $2k. That’s a bit steep for maybe a 2 hr nap on a 5 hr flight.

Don’t let it ruin the trip. A brand new A321 is still better than their 767. Cheers!

One more thing, you must be going direct to maybe Maui? If you go PDX to HNL they fly the A330 on that route, but you’d have to transfer and I am not 100% sure all the aircraft have been reconfigured. It was supposed to be completed by the end of Q1 2018, but customer service should be able to tell you.
