Having trouble getting from HKG to ANC on one award ticket

Having trouble getting from HKG to ANC on one award ticket

As the subject line says, I’m trying to book an award flight from Hong Kong to Anchorage, using my Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles (on Emirates, first class, naturally :)). And since this will be my first time (and probably only time) in Emirates First, I want to really experience it, which means I’d ideally like to take one of the longest flights they have; for example, from Dubai to Los Angeles or Dubai to Dallas-Forth Worth (those flights are 16 hrs and 15 minutes long).

When searching on the Alaska Airlines website, I can enter HKG as the departure airport and ANC as the arrival airport, but by default it always routes through Seattle (HKG > DXB > SEA > ANC) and it never shows flights where the entire route is in first class (always mixed class). So if I were to book one of these award flights using 100,000 miles, I wouldn’t be in First the entire way.

However, when I break the trip up into two flights (DXB to LAX or DFW, and LAX or DFW to ANC), then I can consistently see first class seats for all flight segments. But the problem with this is that it would require me to use more miles. I’d have to redeem 100,000 miles to get from Hong Kong to somewhere in the Lower 48, and then I’d have to redeem another 25,000 miles to get from the Lower 48 to Anchorage.

Ideally, I’d like to get from Hong Kong to Anchorage, routing through either Los Angeles or Dallas-Fort Worth, by redeeming only 100,000 miles. I’m more interested in going all first class than I am in saving miles, so I’d redeem 125,000 miles if that’s the only way to go all first class. But obviously I’d like to redeem as few miles as possible.

So I guess my question is, am I going about this the right way, or is there some other method to accomplish this? Is this the kind of thing where it’s best to actually call the Alaska Airlines reservation desk and speak to someone in person, rather than trying to book through the Alaska website?

Thanks much. That’s good to know. I’ll give that a try.
