Has sense to start earning with BA instead of Iberia?

Has sense to start earning with BA instead of Iberia?

    Hello Lucky,

I’m an Iberia Plus Platino user with around 800.000 avios today placed in Spain.

Due to recent lack of services in Spanish airports (for instance you cannot enter in lounges if you fly with Vueling, due that Iberia doesn’t flight any more), I was wondering if it has sense to start earning points in the Executive Club.

I make at least one long distance flight every couple of months to Asia and America. I normally use BA-Qatar-Iberia airlines always earning in the Iberia Plus. If I start earning with Executive Club I can get relatively soon the Gold status, but I’ve not able to find definitive conclussions searching the internet about if this is convenient or not.

My Iberia Platino Status finishes in April 2018 and my current Executive Blub Blue earning date limit is November 2017.

Can you please help me on this decision?

    Thanks in advance,

    Antonio.

hi @Antonio, the benefits of status are usually the most with the airline you fly the most so I would look into getting status where it would be most useful to you. Will BA status get you into the lounges that you are interested in? IB and BA are similar in many ways but I would also check on earning rates to see how many avios you would earn for the flights you normally take.

Sadly Vueling is not considered Oneworld, so no lounge access in general.

But some lounges let in Gold cards.

If you decide to switch to BA don’t forget that you can link your accounts and transfer Avios.
