Going later to the airport when the flight is delayed?

Going later to the airport when the flight is delayed?

    Hi,

I was flying SYD-AUH-FRA eventually(the flight in the evening), and when i wanted to go to the Airport in Sydney, i searched for the inbound aircraft, and found out that is was still on the way and delayed for a few hours. Despite knowing this( and flying Y -> no lounge), I went to the airport in time and sat there for a while.
Now my Question: Would you have spent the time I was waiting in the city and go to the airport a few hours later or go there on time? I thought about this, because it is an outstation and therefore i was sure that they would use the inbound aircraft for the flight but i did not want to risk missing my flight and i did not know if the Check-In counters would still be open( as it is an outstation and I could not use Online-Check-In).

Personally I would have gone to the airport on time. Yes, it’s a pain to just sit around but I’d much rather be early than late.

Agree with @MidSouth Skier but I’ve also waited to head out to the airport, when I’ve already gotten a notification of the delay of my flight. I think that it depends on the situation. At an outstation, it’s probably fine. But if there are multiple frequencies or other alternatives, then you might get lucky and be rebooked on an earlier flight or rerouted so that you get to your destination as close to your intended arrival time as possible.
