Hello fellow OMAAT Friends and Flyers! As old Mileage Runs are a thing of the past, those of us with USA AF FlyingBlue must now earn “XP’s”. As I’m trying to earn 41 more to hit Plat before e/o/yr, I’m wondering if anyone knows of any really superb fares (in J &/or PE) on qualifying SkyTeam carriers. Options would preferably have some connecting flight segments, for departure after Dec.20th (Ret options somewhat open), with the main leg at min 3,500 actual air miles, and the onward shorter leg any length. Departure from MIA (or East Coast positioning), to Europe, So.America, Asia, etc. are all good. Thanks very much for any great ideas!!

Wouldn’t a XP point run MIA-ATL-BOG on Delta in J/US First earn you 60 XP?

6XP for each of the legs to/from ATL
24XP for each of the legs to/from BOG

Another not too bad option is to sign up for the new Bank of America Flying Blue credit card, which grants 60XP upon approval and its annual fee is only $89, so it would be a really cheap and easy way for you to get those XP (and it’ll give you extra for next year’s requalification). That’s assuming you’re a US resident of course.

Thank you, to each of you, for your superb suggestions. In fact, the choice only becomes more difficult… in trying to choose! And while I’ve got a minute on the soapbox here for the moment, I need to add that it is superb to have a great place (Thanks, Lucky) to share advice and experiences, versus to hear those few who seem to critique with occasional negativity here. So while doing 250K+ miles per year, it’s made even better coupled with daily cool additions from our OMAAT Blogmasters, and fine fellow contributors like each of you!

Any chance someone can help please? I need an XP mileage run, Im 40xp short to keep Platinum, Im based in UK, so Manchester or LBA would work to fly from, thoughts? Im more concerned about the price than the days I need to take, Im pretty flexible. Thank you in advance

Since you are based in Europe your choices becomes a lot simpler.

You either need 8 segments in Y under 2000 miles, aka 2 trips changing plane in AMS or CDG going just about anywhere in Europe that is not a domestic destination in France from CDG.Will earn 40XP.

Or 4 segments in Euro-J under 2000 miles, aka 1 trip changing planes in AMS or CDG. Will earn you 60 XP if all segments are international in Europe, or 42XP if 2 of the segments are domestic flight in France from CDG.

You best choice would be play around with Google flights on dates that work for you.

I would suggest looking for a J trip Sat-Sun to destinations without much demand Biz travel on the weekend, Berlin, Warsaw, Vienna and Prague all comes to mind.

You would be looking at 50-100 pounds max extra flight costs rather than doing 2 R/T in Y. And if doing it as weekend runs you would need to spend 1 night less in a hotel, which would eat up any saving on going in Y rather than J.

Same day returns in Y on Saturdays might also work, but this would include very early morning flights out. Same days on Sundays or weekdays seems to work out as being more expensive. Would save you money as no hotel cost if you live close enough to the airport that the no overnight before flying out is needed.

An interesting choice seems to be the fact that KLM will sell you an Y ticket MAN-LBS or vice versa for just about the same cost as a flight to Europe. Might work if you use public transport or have somebody that can drive you to the airports.

There are pretty good threads on FlyerTalk about XP runs in Europe. Something that seems to come back pretty often in those is that Alitalia tends to have really good J fares, especially with international connections in FCO or to FCO. To No Name’s point, play with Google Flights.

Great advise thank you! Just booked Berlin for a long weekend and Im sorted. Couldnt work out the matrix but google flights is enough for people with no much experience like me. Thank you
