Flight cancellation Aeroflot
Hi everyone,
I had a flight from Budapest to Beijing via Moscow booked for August on Aeroflot (though booked on Expedia). Got a message earlier about being moved to an earlier flight on the Budapest-Moscow leg due to the original flight being cancelled. Flight leaves just under 5 hours earlier, and created basically 6 hour layover instead of 1hr. Is there anything I can do compensation-wise with EU261 or through my CSR card (money/moving to another airline/anything?) Or is it just suck it up and fly?
Thanks for any advice anyone has!

I don’t know if CSR’s protection covers a flight change that means a longer layover, but you can call. At worst it is a waste of 5 minutes.
I do not think EU261 will help in this instance – in instances of cancellation EU261 requires “re-routing to the same destination at the earliest opportunity (under comparable conditions).” I would say Aeroflot has met that requirement. You may be able to request a refund for the total ticket – EU261 allows for “a refund of the ticket as well as a return flight to the point of first departure, when relevant.” You are not entitled, however, to keep your ticket and also claim the E600 compensation.
I also think if you final flight wasn’t changed, you will have a difficult time requesting much. Ultimately, they are still getting you to Beijing at the same time, no?
Also, I’d be prepared for a bit of a runaround with Expedia saying call Aeroflot and vice versa… unfortunately.
Good luck!
I agree with @rickyw. Since your arrival time did not change, I do not believe that you will be given compensation. Plus since it wasn’t a last minute change, that looks even worse for compensation.
Hi everyone, thanks for the replies (same person, different account). Basically as rickyw said, Aeroflot sent me to Expedia and vice versa. Second time explaining situation to Expedia, call only, no email; I was told I could refund for free or switch to any flight operated by the same carrier +/- 1 day. I said no, but asked for any compensation they could offer. Woman I spoke to was very kind, went to supervisors and got me a 50$ Expedia hotel coupon. Not much, but better than nothing!
