European hotel chains

European hotel chains

I’m moving to Amsterdam in March and as a long time Marriott Rewards Platinum member, it looks like that will be hard to maintain traveling in Europe. Could I get some recommendations on best European (Madrid to Moscow to Istanbul) hotel chain and loyalty program with the first priority being consistency of service and room presentation more than the loyalty program? I’ve tried both Accor and NH which seem OK but want to make sure before committing.

Not sure if they serve all the destinations your business travel will take you, but I travel every now and then to Spain and the UK (based in Germany) and usually stay at Melia hotels (Spanish chain). I have personally found the rooms to be simple, but well furnished and very comfortable. I don’t have much knowledge on their loyalty program though.

Also as a side comment, they have very competent prices

I typically find SPG to have the most extensive upscale European portfolio. And, as a Marriott platinum member, you can status match for free (if you haven’t already done so) to SPG platinum to continue enjoying a similar array of benefits to which you are accustomed. Of the destinations you listed, for instance, your four- and five-star choices include:

    Madrid:
    Westin Palace Madrid
    The Principal Madrid, Design Hotels

    Moscow:
    St. Regis Moscow
    Hotel National, Luxury Collection
    Standart Hotel Moscow, Design Hotels
    Sheraton Grand Moscow

    Istanbul:
    St. Regis Istanbul
    W Istanbul
The House Hotel Nisantasi, Design Hotels
The House Hotel Bosphorus, Design Hotels
    Gezi Hotel Bosphorus, Design Hotels
    Le Meridien Istanbul Etiler
    Sheraton Grand Istanbul Atashehir
