Entitled to Compensation?

Entitled to Compensation?

  1. Gferris37 New Member

    Hello All,

I’m wondering if someone can tell me if I’m entitled to/if AA would somehow compensate me for the following situation…?

On 6/13, I was to depart on the 9:55pm flight from LAX to PHL. The flight was delayed until 4:20am on 6/14 due to maintenance and I was rebooked to the 11:55pm flight on 6/13 to PHL. This later flight—albeit earlier than the time my original flight ended up taking off—caused me to miss my PHL-PWM flight. I then had to be rebooked a second time to the next PWM flight. All in all, I landed just over four hours later in PWM than I was originally scheduled to.

So, am I entitled to compensation? If I’m not, based on your experience, would AA somehow compensate me if I called? Miles or a voucher?

    Thank you!

    Hi Gabe,

I’d be shocked if AA offered anything more than a couple thousand miles. If at all. Do you have elite status on AA? That would help. But unlike in the EU (where a 4 hour delay would entitle you to monetary compensation), a delay in the US entitles you to nothing. If you are a super-elite AA flier and can show that the delay seriously inconvenienced you (late for a biz meeting?) you just may get a voucher, but I doubt it. Miles maybe. Ultimately, consider your self lucky it was only a 4 hour delay (given it was a delayed red-eye and you missed a connection).
