Electronics ban and canceling AA award ticket

Electronics ban and canceling AA award ticket

  1. Anonymous Guest

I have award tickets on QR (India-Doha-US) using AA miles.
(I also have outbound, US-Doha-India, but that does not seem to be affected by today’s laptop/electronics ban — as of now.)

Given today’s laptop/electronics ban on direct flights to US from 8 countries including Qatar, I will be most likely be forced to cancel.
Does AA waive the cancellation fee in such cases? (I am only AA Gold, so normal cancellation fee is $150).

Anyone using AA miles for award tickets on Qatar or Etihad, have you canceled after today’s ban, and if so did AA waive the fees?

    Thanks.
(I had also posted this in FT on the AA forum).

Still pretty new and I dont think there are any data points regarding this yet. I’d call AA and ask about it directly and see what they’ll say. Also check out award space on Cathay and if that can work, request to be rebooked on CX and ask about having the fees waived.

They aren’t any waivers posted as of know, as far as I know. I might wait a few days and see how things shake out, but I wouldn’t expect them to do much, unfortunately.
