    Hi lucky, my name is Steve Binkley and I have been following your blog for about three years. I saved up enough miles to fly myself, my wife and our 10-year-old son first class via an American award ticket, saver level . We are flying from Louisville Kentucky to Houston Texas on American metal, and then British Airways first class on the 787–9 dreamliner from Houston to London. British airways just change the flight to a 777. I have contacted American and inquired about trying to get rebooked on the dream liner with British Airways out of Austin. The American airlines agent contacted British airways and they were unwilling to transfer us to a flight out of Austin so we can stay on the dream liner. American has rebooked us on the 77W in first class out of Dallas to London. My wife and son have the two middle seats in the second row and I am currently in 1D. Is it possible to request a downgrade to business class on the same flight with American and asked to have the miles read deposited into my account? I do not have status with American. There are plenty of seats available in business and I would try to get row for in the mini cabin. However, before I try, I wanted to get your opinion if it is even feasible. Also, do you think it is worth staying in first class at all on this particular plane? From your reviews and others I have read, there is very little difference between first class and business class on this aircraft. Thank you for your time.

    I have an American award saver level ticket for three people in June. The original itinerary was to go from Louisville Kentucky to London via Houston and fly first class on the 787–9 dream liner from Houston to London on British airways. The domestic segments are on American metal. British Airways just changed the aircraft to a 777. I callEd. American this morning and spent about an hour trying to get rerouted via Austin so we could stay on. The dream liner in first class. The representatives from British Airways were unwilling to do that. The American agent was able to reroute us onto the 77W on American from Dallas to London instead of having to connect from Dallas to Houston and kept all three of us in first class. From reading reviews on multiple websites it sounds like the difference between first and business class on this plane is very minimal. Is it possible to request a downgrade to business class and asked to have the difference in miles read deposited into my account? These are saver level awards. There was not saver level award availability on the American flight but the agent was able to request first class and it was approved. Should we stay in first or ask to be transferred to business and ask for a refund in the difference of the miles? Looking for advice on this. Thank you in advance.

    You can always try, tell the agent the situation and they might be sympathetic, although I would take AA F over BA C in a heartbeat

    [USER=2748]@Steve Binkley[/USER] you can always try but FC on the 300ER is possibly the best of all options. Sure FC on the Dreamliner would have been nice but you did pretty good I think. As far as a downgrade why would they do that? They accommodated you to your original request of first to Europe and frankly I’m surprised they put you up in AA when BA said no.
