Do I take the EK business seat with Alaska miles or wait it out?

Do I take the EK business seat with Alaska miles or wait it out?

    Hi all,

your advice has been so helpful in the past, thank you.

I’m making my first booking on Emirates with Alaska miles for December 2016. At the moment, I’ve secured 1 first class ticket for LAX-DXB, 2 day stopover then DXB-HKG. I need 1 more but the only availability showing right now is LAX-DXB in business class (which really isn’t anything to complain about, but it’s not 1st class).

I’d appreciate your thoughts on whether I should grab the business class segment now and try to upgrade later, or wait until both segments show 1st availability?

If I read correctly, taking it now and trying to upgrade later can be a problem on Emirates as I think they need to show availability on both segments again to get it, rather than just upgrading one segment.

    Your help is most appreciated!
