Do I need to be memebr of multiple airline loyalty programme to redeem flight award?
Hello. I am a total newbie to redeeming flight awards. If I have collected miles in one airline programme and want to redeem a flight using another airline (as they seem to have better redemption rates), do I have to be a member of the airline programme as well even though I have not flown with the second airline? I have collected some Finnair plus miles with which I could redeem a flight, but redemption rates are exhorbitant in Finnair. If I want to use another airline(oneworld) to redeem a flight, do I have to join that airlines loyalty programme to book a flight award (even if I have never flown them?). Sorry if my q seems too complicated or stupid . Any clarification will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Seppo,
welcome, and No, you don’t have to join a second program to book award flights on the another OneWorld airline. The second airline just has to have released seats to its OneWorld partners.
Hi Seppo,
This article may help give you some context, as well.

If your miles are with Finnair, you are subject to the rates Finnair charges for awards on Finnair and any of their airline partners (both oneworld and non-oneworld)
If you prefer the redemption rates of another airline’s program, you will need to accumulate miles with that airline’s program. You cant transfer miles between airline programs.
