Do I have to call to change AAward booking on Qantas flights?

Do I have to call to change AAward booking on Qantas flights?

    Hi,

I’ve managed to burn through my miles on some decent QF flights in J, but I know I’ll want to change the date in the future. I don’t see any “change” button on my AA account for these flights? Do I need to ring AA?

Last time I called the AU/NZ number for something I couldn’t do online they insisted I had to pay an 80AUD fee! I just hung up and tried again, but their inconsistency is just awful…

Also, I’m only looking at changing dates, not cities or routes. If taxes and surcharges change between now and when I make the change do you pay or receive the difference?

    Cheers!

@johnnyfive, yes you will have to call to make changes. There shouldn’t be any changes in taxes if you are only changing dates but if there is, you will need to pay them or will receive a refund. The inconsistency is unfortunate but a fact of life with our hobby.

If for whatever reason the taxes are different, especially if A LOT different, question it. I changed an EY J award to EY F while keeping the routing and was told the taxes per person DOUBLED. I questioned it and it turned out the agent was incorrectly processing the ticket change. Errors were corrected and taxes were the same as my original award. I only needed to pay the difference in mileage.
