Current AA Mileage Buyup – April

Current AA Mileage Buyup – April

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Lucky,
With the changes to the AA mileage redemption program, do you still think it is a good idea to take advantage of the mileage buy up program they have in place till 4/30/19? Based on what you wrote I am looking at buying up to get the 100,000 mile bonus, but would like you thoughts. Thanks!

Do you have a specific redemption in mind?

Actually I am looking to replenish my account after I just redeemed 200,000 miles for a trip this fall. I was actually shocked that I finally found some flights where I could use the miles to just pay the small service fee to get up to the front cabin. That seems to be getting more rare as time goes on! Just wondering if it is worth the buy up to the max to do it before the end of the month.

I’m not sure the 100k bonus now is the best offer. If you dont have any of the AA cards, apply for them (unless you’ve had or cancelled them in the last 24 months)

Otherwise, It’s probably best to hold off on buying miles unless you have a specific use for them.

Thanks much for the feedback! Yep I have the Citibank Platinum Select card so I am earning every month. Very odd that all of a sudden I was trying to book a trip to DUB I’m September using miles and the Platinum Pro desk has been giving me the “not available” line and I was just online and it is absolutely no issue in booking. The left hand certainly does not know what the right one is doing!

Get the Barclay’s AA card, that’ll give you a nice boost. If you have a spouse or other travel companion, have them get the card as well (and/or they Citi AA card if they dont have it)

You may also be eligible for the Business versions of the cards.
