    Hi guys,
I have the Chase Ritz card, but plan to cancel it late this summer. If I used this card to buy tickets, or even to pay the extra costs associated with an award ticket, then cancel the card, will I still be covered for trip cancellation or lost baggage, or am I out of luck at that point? ie should I continue with one of these fancy cards past the one year mark that give these great perks?
    thanks!

Unfortunately if you cancel the card before you take the trip, you’re out of luck!

Not sure about Amex or Citi, but for your situation, Chase would definitely say the card is closed, so no benefits. Had the same issue when downgrading the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

Best to keep it open at least until your trip, then make a decision about cancelling.
