So I am flying out of EWR (1:45 am departure) on Cathay Pacific business class, I get to EWR at 6:00 PM on a separate flight on Delta.

Old buddy from school lives in the city and wants to meet for dinner. I don’t want to have to drag my luggage with me.

The question is. Cathay’s check in counters don’t open until 9:15 PM (4.5 hours before departure per their website).

Is there anyway I can check my luggage at the American Airlines counter and it will get on my CX flight. Or can i only check in at the Cathay counter?

You can’t check your bags in with anyone other than Cathay.

However, Delta and Cathay do technically have an interline baggage agreement, so you [I]may[/I] be able to ask the Delta agent to check your bag through by showing both tickets. Delta isn’t known for accommodating this, but it could be worth asking.
