Changing reservation dates post AA devaluation on Tuesday

Changing reservation dates post AA devaluation on Tuesday

  1. charlie325 New Member

hey there. I called AA to book a first class flight from EWR-HKG in March3, 2017 for 67,500 AA miles but they said they can only book until Feb. 11, 2017. But they said i can book the Feb. 11 flight and when the March 3, 2017 date is bookable (and still available obviously) via AA, i can just call them back and move the Feb. 11 booking to the March 3 booking. He said the March 22 devaluation will not affect the date change so i will not be charged the extra miles because the booking will need to be done past the devaluation date. is this true? i didnt book it yet ‘coz i wasn’t sure. should i book now for the current lower mileage requirement and then just change the date later and not worry about the new, higher miles requirement? thanks!

Welcome @charlie325 – I think you’d be OK. Tickets are good for one year from the date of issue, so since we’re now past March 3 I believe you should be able to later change the return date once that opens up.

As long as your originating airport, destination airport and mix of airlines are not changing, only the date, you should be fine, provided award space is there when you call
