Cathay Award Space Using AS Miles

Cathay Award Space Using AS Miles

  1. Anonymous Guest

You guys should look into this. May be a sign of bigger problems or things to come. Cathay is doing some weird things with releasing award space to partners. Case in Point – I have a ticketed award using AS miles that I was able to book around the time the schedule opened. It’s for CX0845 (1am JFK-HKG) first class on 5/23. I’ll be planning to continue on to DPS the same day in business. As long as the same day departure, I can use the First Lounges, which is pretty important to me. I looked on BA, it was available, I called AS, they showed it as available and I snatched it like normal, thinking I’d call back every once in a while and/or check a few days before departure to see if they released more space to get my wife on. Searching that week I see
Now I’m looking for a first class ticket for my wife on Cathay CX0845 using AS miles. When I search BA.com, I can see one seat available on the 5/24 CX0845 (1am JFK-HKG) first. which should be irrelevant to me because my ticket is booked for 5/23 except I noticed something when I asked about it on the phone with AS. For the dates of 5/23, 5/24, and some other dates, they don’t see first class award space bookable with AS miles. They actually don’t even see the CX0845 Flight at all.
Is that odd? I think it is. The AS Reps don’t. I’ve been doing the HUACA for a couple months on this and I keep getting the same results.
Any ideas about this? Could it be that Cathay is a little miffed at Alaska for offering awards so cheaply (maybe hinting at a devaluation similar to the Emirates thing) or am I being overly pessimistic/paranoid?
What if anything other than HUACA do you suggest? I really need to get on that 130am flight so that I can get a same day.
