Cancel aadvantage award

i have an award trip coming up that I won’t be taking. I prefer to wait until a day or two before just in case there’s a big snowstorm or an exception so I can avoid the $150 change fee. Is there any limit to how soon before the departures that I can still cancel? Can i wait til the day before?

I have an award trip coming up that I can’t take. I’d like to wait to cance on the outside change of a big snow storm or something else that lets me cancel without the $150 fee. How long can I wait before cancellkng? Can I wait until the day before?

If you want to do it at a later date and it is on AA, then you can do it but, you wan’t be getting your miles back. Otherwise, I don’t know what to do.

I don’t believe AA has a cancellation deadline. However, if you think you might travel that route within a year of ticketing, you can cancel your reservation but keep the award in place. When you call later you can then apply your award to a new reservation (travel must be within a year of original ticketing). If you are not going to travel you could also try to do a free date change to as far into the future as you can and hope for equipment or schedule changes.
