hey Lucky..
Need your help on deciding a Cairns Australia hotel between the Shangri La marina or the Hilton Cairns.

I paid for 3 nights ($425 USD) weekend at this hotel for a Superior Sea View room. No breakfast.

The other options is using my Hilton points (150K) also for 3 nights but in a ‘standard king guest room’ (no sea view) but with Breakfast (via HHonors gold).
Which do you recommend? is 150k a good use for this hotel with breakfast as opposed to paying 425 for a sea view but no breakfast?

Are there stronger chances for one property to upgrade me further? I guess this will help with my decision.

What’s the paid rate at the Hilton for the 3 nights? As an HHonors Gold, you’ll get breakfast at the hotel regardless of whether its paid or an award but 150k HHonors points works out to be $600, based on Lucky’s valuation.

Shangri-La might be a fun option, especially if paid rates at Hilton are similar.

the HHonors discounted rate at the Hilton comes out to $170 a night so a total of about $510 USD. In terms of location the Shangri La and the Hilton are across the street from each other. Do you think it’s a good idea to book the Hilton and hope for an upgrade? or just stay at the Shangri La since the rate is reasonable and keep the 150k Hilton points.

I havent been to Cairns before so I’m not sure which hotel is better. Personally I’d go with the Hilton since you’re Gold and will get breakfast and points from the stay. Upgrade would be a bonus but that depends on how full the hotel is and how flexible they are with upgrades. Being Gold means that you’d just get a slightly bigger room but no suites.

Have you checked out reviews for both? You might find something on Flyertalk.

Thank you! Yes, I’ve read plenty of reviews for both hotels and both seem to be tied and one doesn’t seem to be far better than each other. okay, will cancel the Shangri La and book the award stay at the Hilton. Thanks again
